The Heart Behind Sukha

A little bit about me, and the journey that brought Sukha to life.

This is the story of how Bali found me, shaped me, softened me — and how this beautiful island became the heart of everything I now create.

I grew up watching my mom travel across Africa for humanitarian work — helping mothers and children, offering care, presence, and love. Even as a little girl, I remember looking at her and thinking, one day, I’ll go out into the world too.

That sense of curiosity stayed with me.

So did the feeling that I was meant to live differently.

I never fully felt at home in my own country. Something in me longed for a slower rhythm, a gentler way of living. I always felt called somewhere else — I just didn’t know where yet.

Eight years ago, that call arrived.

A friend of mine had opened a restaurant in Bali. On a whim, I reached out to ask if there was any chance I could come work with him. At the time, the answer was no.

A few months later, he messaged me again:

“Do you still want to come to Bali?”

Of course, I said yes.

We met a few days later, and he looked at me and said,

“It’s you. You’re the one. You’re coming to Bali to manage my restaurant.”

I was excited, terrified, and completely unprepared — but in the best way.

I remember calling my mom in a panic, telling her everything. She simply said:

“If you don’t do this, you’ll regret it. Go. Have the best time.”

Two weeks later — with my entire life packed into a couple of suitcases — I boarded a plane to Bali.

I had never been to Asia. I was 25. I promised myself I would stay for one year.

One year became eight.

Somewhere between the sunsets, the chaos, the beauty, and the magic, Bali became home.

Over the years, I’ve worn many hats — managing the restaurant, supporting friends with their brands, and discovering another deep passion: design. I designed villas and curated spaces meant to feel like a warm embrace.

Looking back, it makes perfect sense that I’m now designing journeys.

Beauty, intention, and care have always been at the heart of everything I create.

This island changed me.

It softened me.

Held me.

Grew me into the woman I am today.

Bali has a way of showing you exactly what you need to face — often in unexpected ways, but always for your highest good. Through its people, its culture, and its quiet wisdom, it teaches lessons you didn’t even know you were ready to learn.

Over time, people began reaching out — asking for guidance, recommendations, hidden gems, and places not found on the internet.

It felt natural to bring everything together:

the experience, the relationships, the deep love I have for this island.

That’s how Sukha Journeys was born.

From a desire to share the real Bali — the one I know, the one I’ve lived, the one that has held me for the past eight years.

This is what continues to guide everything I create.

I want you to discover the island through trusted locals who are now family to me.

I want you to feel its warmth, its depth, its truth.

I want you to experience the Bali that exists beyond what social media shows you.

Most of all, I want you to travel in a way that allows you to grow, soften, and reconnect — just as I did.

This is the heart behind Sukha.

And I’m so grateful to share it with you.
